I was born in Dallas, Texas, and raised by two loving Jamaican parents: both of whom I promptly ditched upon turning 18. With their blessing and an unrelenting itch to venture outside of the Lone Star's vast confines, I chose to attend the University of Missouri and pursue a Bachelor of Journalism from the renowned Missouri School of Journalism.
During my time as an undergraduate, I worked as a member services associate at the MU Recreation Complex (2011-12) and served as the social media intern for the 2011 Roots n Blues N BBQ Festival (headed by Thumper Entertainment / Woodruff Sweitzer). Most of my interactions with clients, for both positions, involved managing online presences and a lot of business-to-consumer communications.
Although my interest in client services and marketing was palpable, I knew in my heart that my passions lay with being in service of others. Through my collegiate honor fraternity, I became familiar with Teach for America: an organization dedicated to closing the academic achievement gap between low-income students and their more affluent peers. I applied, and was selected for the 2012 teaching corps which, subsequently, called for my relocation to Atlanta, Georgia for 2 years.
Informed by my time and experiences in the classroom, I am currently interested in finding opportunities to develop my managerial/operations skills and pursuing an MBA. I plan to focus on operations management and social entrepreneurship-- a true marriage of my leadership abilities, passion for social justice, aptitude for strategic thinking and relationship building skills.
